Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies for membership?
Every property owner and resident, as defined in the by-laws, within the corporate limits of Garden City, east of the center of Franklin Avenue, is a member of the EPOA. To qualify for voting membership in the Garden City Eastern Property Owners’ Association, it is necessary to pay the annual membership dues.
What do my dues pay for?
These fees help fund the delivery of important Village information through the EPOA newsletter, eBulletin, website, post cards, special communications (as needed) and fund all EPOA primary elections and polls. All EPOA officers, directors, representatives, etc., are volunteers (as are the Village and School trustees) and receive no compensation.
What are the benefits of membership?
As a member, you are helping to support your local representation in Garden City's governmental structure as set forth by the Community Agreement of 1919 (click on the "About Us" tab and go to the Community Agreement section for information on how the Village government works). Membership is also useful if you wish to volunteer your time to the many boards, commissions and organizations within the Village. Finally, voting membership is required in order to serve as an EPOA director or officer, to vote for EPOA directors and officers and also to nominate and vote for members of the Director & Officer Nominating Committee, also known as the 7 Member Nominating Committee.
