Recycling Containers & Sanitation Information

From Village of Garden City Department of Public Works:

Starting Monday June 8th the Village will be delivering new recycling buckets to all households in the Village. We will be collecting the old recycling containers at the time of your normal collection and leaving a new one in its place. These new recycling buckets were purchased as part of the Village’s 2019-20 Capital program. These buckets are larger then the old ones with more capacity and now have handles which make them more ergonomic for the operators who collect and empty them and for the homeowners who fill them. Distribution of the new pails will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Additional info:

Even if you have no recycling to place at the curb you place your bin out in the next two weeks so you can get the new container.  Container will resemble the pail in the picture.

Recycling

Each year, the Recycling Program collects, on average, 2,900 tons of bottles, cans and newspapers from commercial and residential locations.

VILLAGE E-CYCLING PROGRAM
The Department of Environmental Conservation has placed restrictions on the collection and disposal of E-Waste (televisions, VCR's, DVD players, electronic or video game consoles, cable or satellite receivers, FAX machines, document scanners, computers, computer peripherals such as printers, scanners, monitors, keyboards etc.  Collectors such as the Village will be required to separately collect these items and designate them for recycling or reuse.  The Village has contacted a vendor which has been designated by the Town of Hempstead for E-waste recycling and they have agreed to provide a Pod which will be located at the Village Yard for the collection of E-Waste which will be recycled by them.

Residents requesting E-Waste items to be collected at the front curb of their home must first call the Village Yard at 465-4032 and schedule their special pick-up for either the first and third Tuesday of each month.  You may also bring your 'E-Waste" to the Village Yard for proper disposal in the designated area during normal hours of operation. For any questions, please contact the Village Yard directly at 465-4031.
