The independent Garden City East Nominating Committee is actively seeking residents of the Eastern section of Garden City who are interested in running for election as the East’s representative on the Village Board of Trustees to serve a two-year term commencing in April 2022.

After hearing feedback following last year’s Village election, the Nominating Committee is modifying its process to create a more transparent procedure that incorporates resident input. Enhancements to the process include:

• Hosting a combined information session with the four Village POAs on October 14^th at Cluett Hall for residents who are interested in learning about qualifications and hearing an overview of the nomination process.
• Scheduling a Town Hall meeting in November to provide East residents an opportunity to meet the potential candidates, ask questions, and provide input.
• Holding a run-off election at the annual Resident Elector Meeting in January where East residents can select a final candidate, assuming there is more than one candidate for the position of Village Trustee.

Separately, pursuant to established EPOA procedures, if there are any additional proposals for nominations made by petition, a second meeting of resident electors will be held on the second Tuesday after the January meeting for the purpose of voting.

All interested residents are welcome to apply. Past experience or dues-paying membership in the EPOA is not—and never has been—required. The by-laws of the EPOA state clearly that a “member” is each owner and each resident of GC East.

All candidates should submit their name, address, contact information (including phone number and email), and a brief summary of their personal/professional background, as well as a brief summary of the reason for their interest in the trustee position. Materials should be submitted in writing to the chairperson of the nominating committee, Christine Mullaney, in one of two ways: by email at gceastnominations@gmail.com or via US Mail to 104 Huntington Road, Garden City, 11530.

The deadline for submission is Nov 7, 2021.
