GC East Committee Selects Dennis Donnelly for Mayor, Robert Martin for School Trustee
The 15-member Garden City East Nominating Committee has selected East Trustee Dennis Donnelly as its nominee to the position of Mayor of Garden City for a two-year term beginning in April, 2015. The Committee has also selected East School Trustee Robert Martin as its nominee to a new three year term on the Board of Education beginning in July, 2015.
Mr. Donnelly has been a Village Trustee since 2009 and a Village resident since 1969.He is retired since 2004 from Verizon, where he most recently served as Director of Government and Community Relations for the Long Island region.
Dennis currently serves as Fire Commissioner, liaison to the business community, as a member of the Traffic Commission,chair of the committee on vacancies, and a member of the senior center expansion committee. In the past he has served as Police Commissioner, Commissioner of Public Works, chair of the public information committee, chair of the Traffic Commission, Commissioner of buildings, and Commissioner of planning and zoning.Prior to his terms as Village Trustee, Dennis was president of the Eastern Property Owners’ Association (EPOA) and chairman of the Joint Conference Committee (JCC) of the POAs.
Mr. Martin is currently serving his first term as School Trustee from the East. He is a finance and educational professional with extensive senior management experience in both the corporate and non-profit sectors. A graduate of Brown University, he holds an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
Together with his wife, Bob moved to Garden City in 2007. Bob served for seven years as a trustee on the Mamaroneck (Westchester) Board of Education, including a term as president. He also served as vice president of the Westchester-Putnam School Boards Association.
Additional proposals for nominations as Mayorand/or School Board Trustee may be made by petition filed with the Corporate Secretary of the EPOA at least 30 days prior to the January resident electors’ meeting and signed by not less than 15 resident electors. Any nominating petition so filed shall, in addition, set forth the residence addresses of the signers, the names and addresses of the persons proposed for nomination for Village offices and the office for which they are proposed. The filing deadline for the upcoming January 20, 2015, resident electors’ meeting is December 21, 2014. The Corporate Secretary of the EPOA is Joseph Courtade.
